Southeast Industrial Energy Efficiency Summit

This meeting was hosted by the DOE Industrial Technologies Program and the ORNL Partnerships Directorate in June 2008 at ORNL. The goal of this Summit was to begin developing an action plan to reduce the energy intensity of the industrial sector in the Southeast by 25%. The Summit has led to the formation of the Southeast Industrial Energy Efficiency Coalition, a group of 16 Southeast industrial, utility, and state leaders.

Save Energy Now LEADER Program

Save Energy Now is the national initiative of the Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) that aims to drive a 25-percent reduction in industrial energy intensity in 10 years (25 in 10). To achieve the 25 in 10 goal, Save Energy Now will concentrate on providing support to Save Energy Now LEADER Companies—industrial companies that sign a voluntary pledge to reduce their facilities’ energy intensity by 25 percent or more in 10 years. ITP is taking a targeted and return on investment (ROI) approach, advancing efficiency actions that result in the best British thermal unit (Btu) saved per dollar investment. Companies that make this ambitious pledge develop energy intensity baselines, energy management plans, and report their progress to ITP on an annual basis. To facilitate LEADER Companies in achieving their energy reduction targets, they will be provided priority access to ITP resources.

Save Energy Now LEADER Companies will be given priority access to energy assessments. Each LEADER Company will be one of four Technical Account Managers at ORNL who act as an energy management expert and provide tailored technical assistance to help a company develop an energy baseline and energy management plan. Technical Account Managers also provide companies with training that teaches them long-term skills to self-sustain energy efficiency efforts.

Industrial Assessment Centers

The mission of the IAC is two-fold:

work with U.S. manufacturers to identify opportunities for saving energy through assessments and follow-up
train the next generation of energy-savvy engineers. Centers are located at 26 engineering schools across the U.S.

ORNL supports the IAC on performance metrics and on student and alumni activities.
